now my
brother's keeper
(More of
a sheepdog, than a shepherd)
It is not
good for man to live alone
(with only the animals).
So I got married and had six children.
(my own litter)

One day the zoo-keeper noticed that
the orangutan was reading two books: the Bible and
Darwin's,
Origin of Species. Curiously he asked the ape, "Why
are you reading two such opposite books?" "Well,"
said the orangutan, "I'm trying to figure out if I'm suppose to be my brother's
keeper or my keeper's brother." [Author Unknown - and modified a bit]
The photo on the left
is an old, old picture from 1980 when I worked as a carnivore
keeper at the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans
and trained canines on the side. The photo on the right is of me now old, old -
teaching biology and managing a 40 animal classroom, "NCZoo", at Northlake
Christian School.
Remember, even
Adam, Moses & David learned
to lead people by shepherding animals :-)
This beautiful Clouded Leopard is Mandalay ("Mandy").
She was full grown (they're
only 40-50 lbs), and she was more
gentle than a house-cat. I even took naps in her cage on
the heated floor during the winter.
After the Zoo, I lived and worked at a Veterinary
clinic, assisting the Vets with emergencies, surgeries, radiology,
and anesthesiology. Later when I became a Christian, my heart
changed and I began to want to help hurting families. I prayed
daily for God to show me if I should switch to people. Not long
after that, I developed allergies to all of the animals. (Coincidence? I don't know), but my decision was easy.
So
back to school I went - Seminary
One day,
God's New Eden is
