Discipleship Counseling Questions
& Practical Biblical Answers

For a long while, many folks have sent counseling questions from around the world asking us for practical Biblical answers. The first thing we tell them of course is that they don't need our advice, but rather God's Counsel from Scripture (Acts 17:11). Since our time is limited and many of the same questions are being asked again and again, we've decided to start putting some of them online (altered of course to protect identities). Our hope is that these applications of God's Biblical principles will help others reveal the Lord through their relationships, bless those around them, and experience the fruit of the Spirit (Gal 2:20; 4:19; 5:16-25; 6:1-3).

Please understand that each person's situation is unique and therefore you should always seek an abundance of wise biblical counsel, especially the pastors / elders from your own local church who know you best (1 Tim 3; Titus 1). And most of all, never believe and follow anything without checking it carefully with the full balance of Holy Scripture (Acts 17:11).

Sid, what if your belief in Christianity is wrong?

Your question, "What if I'm wrong?", is the most important question anyone can ever ask about the answers they trust regarding the ultimate questions of eternal life. The Bible in the book of Hebrews says, "It's appointed for man to die once, and then comes judgment." So if non-Christian are wrong, and they wait until after death to submit to Christ, then they chose to wait to late.

But if I'm wrong, and Buddhism or Hinduism is correct, then I'll simply be reincarnated again and have to keep on evolving spiritually, as I work through my bad karma. If extreme, radical Islam is right, then it doesn't matter anyway, since all is fatefully predetermined by Allah, and man's choice is basically irrelevant. If Universalism is true, then we all get to enter God's Kingdom eventually.

But my friend, the key is "why" you believe what you believe.  What evidence does a set of answers really stand on?  Is your faith blind and irrational, or is it rational faith based on so much objective and subjective evidence that it stands way above all other belief systems.   I highly recommend the book, "More Than A Carpenter", by Josh McDowell, or even his larger volume, "Evidence That Demands A Verdict". There are many other similar books written by men who doubted the truths of Christianity, and yet honestly searched the evidence behind it. Like, McDowell, they ended up on their knees, humbly submitting to Jesus for who He truly is, King of Kings and Lord of Lords, our Creator, who transcends space and time, yet who entered space/time as a man in love to do all that was needed to reconcile rebels to Himself.  Please see my brief article: "Good News: Simple Enough for a Child - Profound Enough for any Ph.D.".

Why is man "the glory of God", but woman "the glory of man"?

If a man has a rebellious adult child, is that man disqualified to be a pastoral elder?
